DINNY’S DO

Following a Request to join in from The Dublin Lions club who have been hosting a Christmas party for the homeless and those in sheltered accommodation for the past 40 years Galway Lions decided to join in at this year’s event, held a little later on Feb27th.  Hot meals were provided to the Peter McVerry Family Hub, The Fairgreen Hostel, Osterley Lodge and Glenoaks winter refuge. In all 92 adults and 31 children were catered for.   The hot food comprised hot pizza, potato wedges, cocktail sausages, and a can of Fanta or coke for everybody, plus a small box of chocolates each.  Supermacs Salthill supplied and delivered everything superbly and

Galway Lions Club Christmas Appeal 2021 – Thank you for your support. To everyone who supported our Christmas Appeal – through our radio auction or our iDonate fundraiser – a very sincere thank you! The restrictions imposed by the current situation meant that many of our usual fundraising events could not be held this year, while the way we conducted others had to be radically changed. Remembrance Mass

                          The Annual  Remembrance Mass  for deceased Lions and their families was held at the Ardilaun Hotel on 19th November. President Mary  MacLynn acted as host and welcomed all in attendance.  Enda Colleran, Project Chair, looked after the details and Choir Master Jim Kelly led the dulcet tones,  Our longstanding friend  Fr. Michael Brennan travelled from nearby Barna to officiate at a sensitive and uplifting ceremony.   A lovely evening was completed with light refreshments.

Death of Founding Member

One of our charter members, Michael Healy died recently after a long illness. Michael was instrumental in establishing Galway Lions Club at the suggestion of his brother who was then a member of Clonmel Lions Club. Galway Lions Club was chartered on 22nd March 1972 with the following members: Richard Bourke, John Butler, Bernard Campion, Terence Crosby, Terry Cunningham, James Egan, Dan Griffin, Brendan Guerin, Michael Healy, John Howlett, John McCann, Donal McCarthy, Sean McLoughlin, William McMahon, John Melia, Gerald Molloy, Bernard Murphy, Kieran Murphy, Enda O’Byrne, John O’Sullivan, Thomas Turner.
