Death of Founding Member

One of our charter members, Michael Healy died recently after a long illness. Michael was instrumental in establishing Galway Lions Club at the suggestion of his brother who was then a member of Clonmel Lions Club. Galway Lions Club was chartered on 22nd March 1972 with the following members: Richard Bourke, John Butler, Bernard Campion, Terence Crosby, Terry Cunningham, James Egan, Dan Griffin, Brendan Guerin, Michael Healy, John Howlett, John McCann, Donal McCarthy, Sean McLoughlin, William McMahon, John Melia, Gerald Molloy, Bernard Murphy, Kieran Murphy, Enda O’Byrne, John O’Sullivan, Thomas Turner. Safe Talk

The Galway Lions Club, in partnership with the HSE, is supporting the delivery of SafeTALK, a three-hour training programme that helps participants to become alert to persons with suicidal thoughts. It also helps participants to gain a clear understanding of what steps they should take in order to help individuals with these thoughts. People at risk are more likely to get life-saving help when they need it most, if more people in their community have safeTALK suicide alertness skills. This training is suitable for anyone over 18 years of age, who has not been affected by a recent loss, who wants to help prevent suicide in their community. We are

Cash Collection Memories

Some photos of Club members and friends taking part in our annual cash collection. We would like to thank the managements of The Corrib Shopping Centre, Galway Shopping Centre, Dunnes Stores Knocknacarra and Westside, Joyces Knocknacarra and Fr Griffin Road, Supervalu Barna and Tesco Headford Rd. for allowing us to collect on their premises. Remembrance Mass

Remembrance Mass on 19th November, we had a most beautiful service led by Father Michael Brennan and our own Lion Tom O Connor, who succeeded in encouraging 27 Lions to attend. It was a lovely opportunity to meet some old friends who’s deceased spouses had a strong connection with the club. Father Michael led a lovely meaningful ceremony and Choir Master Jim Kelly led the dulcet tones, which complimented the evening. We finished off with a most sociable cup of tea, before we all then went our separate ways.

New Bulletin Editor

So Trump got into the Whitehouse as President of America, and now Padraig Bree has got in as Editor of Galway Lions Club bulletin. Speaking at our July meeting Padraig said “In agreeing to take on this prestigious role I am acutely aware of the long history of excellent editors we have had. Lion Dan Griffin was the original of the species, followed by Lion John Hanlon RIP, and Lion Tom Hogan, who has undertaken this task with aplomb and professionalism. In a Lions sense, each of these people have been heroes of mine, from Danny’s steady maturity, to John’s absolute attention to detail, and Tom excellently and diligently serving
