Each year in the lead up to Christmas, the Galway Lions Club working with the local Health and Social Services staff, the Simon Community, Cope Galway and St.Vincent de Paul to prepare a list of people in need of support during this period. These sources are cross checked to reduce duplication.
The funds to enable such a significant distribution of food vouchers throughout Galway, comes from the public of the city through two main events during December. Thanks to the public contributions to the Galway Lions Club Christmas appeal and the Radio Auction club members are able to distribute directly to door to over 700 families and individuals at Christmas.
Throughout the year we also support those who may be going through a bad patch or who ‘fall through the cracks’ and need assistance because of illness, poverty or who otherwise fall on hard times.or need some temporary help to get back on their feet.
In 2022 Galway Lions club distributed vouchers valued in excess of €55,000
