Following a Request to join in from The Dublin Lions club who have been hosting a Christmas party for the homeless and those in sheltered accommodation for the past 40 years Galway Lions decided to join in at this year’s event, held a little later on Feb27th.  Hot meals were provided to the Peter McVerry Family Hub, The Fairgreen Hostel, Osterley Lodge and Glenoaks winter refuge. In all 92 adults and 31 children were catered for.

The hot food comprised hot pizza, potato wedges, cocktail sausages, and a can of Fanta or coke for everybody, plus a small box of chocolates each.  Supermacs Salthill supplied and delivered everything superbly and very kindly sponsored the soft drinks, for which a big thank you to Anthony and Sharon O’Reilly.

We also delivered cuddly toys for the smallies in the Hub, colouring books and pencils for other children.

All adults also got a large poster (courtesy of Dublin Lions Club) and colouring pencils and invited to colour up and win a special prize for each hostel. We also included a HSE Healthy Living Brochure for all.

While the fun was limited by strict adherence to Covid 19 Regulations an enjoyable evening was had by all.
