Press Release

Galway Lions help renovations in Kilcornan

Galway Lions Club members redecorated a bungalow for SCCUL Enterprises whose mission is to help prevent and alleviate poverty and distress in Galway city and county and to support the least privileged groups in our community.

The Lions club was asked if it would support the redecoration of one of the Bungalows at The SCCUL Sanctuary located in Clarenbridge, in the beautiful woodland setting of Kilcornan, as part of a concerted effort to upgrade bungalows that were in poor condition.

The SCCUL Sanctuary is intended to provide a safe space where those who are facing very difficult life challenges can attend a therapeutic respite day in an idyllic setting. A wide range of people from the community are expected to benefit from these facilities including MS patients,Cancer patients, Elderly people and People who have suffered a head injury

SCCUL, as a registered charity, turned to the community for help.

The Galway Lions President Eimear McDonnell said “ I am so delighted our members responded so emphatically to the appeal for help. A lot of our work goes to raising funds and allocating for people in need and for people who seem to fall between the cracks. It was great to see members role up their sleeves and we were pleased to contribute both financially for materials and in elbow grease as club members showed their artistic side as they got stuck into the painting and reburbishing of the bungalow.”

Glaway Lions club were one of a number of local charities, including the Corrib Lions Club, Fidelity Investments and Celestica who rowed in to support this project.

The Galway Lions Club has been serving Galway for 40 years, has 60 members and meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8.00pm in the Ardilaun Hotel. Lions Clubs are a group of men and women who volunteer their time to try and improve the quality of lives of their local community. All money collected goes straight to those in need. No money received goes to the administration of the Club.
