Background to the Club
The Galway Lions Club was formed in 1972 and is part of a worldwide organisation affiliated to the International Lions organisation and one of 115 Clubs on the island of Ireland. The activities of the Club are united under the motto “We serve”.
The Galway Lions Club has been serving the local community of Galway for over 40 years. It also helps raise funds and awareness for international appeals and disaster relief.
The Lions is a not for profit voluntary organisation where every euro collected goes directly to community projects and individuals in need. No money collected is used for administration.
The Lions are men and women from all walks of life from the local community who come together to try and improve the quality of life for people who find themselves in a less fortunate situation.
There are currently 50 members who are active in both fundraising and services projects.
Each year the Galway Lions Club seeks to raise approximately € 75.000.
The activities of the Lions Club fall under two headings, service and fundraising.
